1781 document addressed to James Steptoe, clerk of Bedford Court, Virginia written during the Revolutionary War regarding the transport of slaves from South Carolina to Virginia.  James Steptoe was a business acquaintance of Thomas Jefferson and provided him with natural history specimens.

Written on laid paper, 8″x6″ in likely a lamp black ink,

Condition: Matted, mounted to a backboard of the same color with a plastic mylar sheet covering the opening. Previous owner’s transcription on rear.  Approximately 1″x4″ strip torn from lower right corner. Folded as per common in the era for a letter.
