Quarto. 177 pages, illustrated with tipped in color plates protected by printed tissues. Hardcover. Bound in brown cloth covered boards stamped in gilt, red, black and green. Printed in Great Britain. Printed on a heavy wove paper.

Condition: Book is in VG condition but suffers from mustiness. Minor edge-wear to bottom corners and top and bottom of spine.  Name (Briggs W.  Buchanan) written on first free endpaper along with an older bookseller’s price in pencil.

Briggs Wheeler Buchanan, a former member of the American Stock Exchange who became adviser in ancient Near Eastern art at Yale University, died Friday in a nursing home in Guilford, Conn. His age was 72.

Mr. Buchanan whose home was in Guilford, graduated from Harvard in 1924. He had been an art historian on the staff at Yale since 1953 after retiring as a senior partner in the brokerage firm of H. L. Buchanan. He had meanwhile begun archaeological research at Oxford University as a Fulbright scholar, going to Yale as a research associate. – New York Times Obituary (December 14, 1976)
