Duodecimo. 492 pages. Hardcover. Bound in original calf covered boards.

Condition: Good only. Binding rough but complete. Leather dry – almost “kippered” as a friend once called it – with the appearance of having been kept on a mantle of a fireplace with a smokey chimney, some worm tracks on the rear and a darkening from polish.  Two corners worn through/split.  Title label missing from spine. Top corner missing from pages 5-8 not affecting text. Minor foxing and damp-staining.

Charles Ganilh (6 January 1758 – 1836) was a French economist and politician.

He was born at Allanche in Cantal. He was educated for a profession in law and practiced as avocat. During the troubled period which culminated in the taking of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, he became prominent in public affairs.

Ganilh is best known as the most vigorous defender of the mercantile school in opposition to the views of Adam Smith and the English economists

His works on political economy are clear and concise. His writings include Essai politique sur le revenue des peuples de l’antiquité, du moyen âge, &c. (1808), Des systèmes d’économie politique (1809), Théorie d’économie politique (1815), and Dictionnaire analytique d’économie politique (1826).
