Octavo. 391 pages, illustrated. Hardcover. Bound in yellow cloth-covered boards, stamped in black and white. Top edge stained black. Illustrated with b/w photographs.

Condition. Near fine. Some smudges on spine and front cover as seen in photographs. Shoemaker, Riverdale, Conn.” Previous bookseller’s pricing in pencil on first free endpaper.

A scarce book in any condition, this copy is extraordinary. Aside from some minor smudges, it has few faults. Henry Shoemaker was Pennsylvania’s first state folklorist, first such position in the nation. He was a newspaperman and minister to Bulgaria.
