Description

Rudyard Kipling, The Writings in Prose and Verse of Rudyard Kipling. (Charles Scribner’s Sons: New York, 1913).

Octavo. 25 volumes. Bound in purple publisher’s cloth. with white disk inset into front cover with elephant and swastika in cameo. Spines decorated with a pleasing craftsman-style flower in gilt. Top edge gilt with other edges deckle.

Condition: VG+, spine faded to a pleasing brown, gilt darkened with dust, some spotting.  Some volumes show foxing.  Some volumes slightly shaken, but still acceptably tight.  Shows well on shelf.

Kipling was the first English-speaking writer to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.  An unabashed Colonialist, his writings do not always pass the filter of modern day taste but his skill with words was seldom matched then or now.
